Mr. Steyer has a diverse corporate practice representing nonprofit and for-profit organizations. In the non-profit area, his practice includes corporate formation and organization, obtaining and maintaining tax exempt status, governance and board policies, nonprofit taxation, determining reasonable executive compensation, and compliance with IRS rules and best practices. Mr. Steyer also advises and represents international non-profit organizations in areas such as grant making, the formation and operation of foreign affiliates, and compliance with U.S. Treasury anti-terrorist guidelines.

Mr. Steyer also provides a broad range of legal advice and representation as general counsel to trade associations, professional societies and charitable organizations in areas such as intellectual property, contract drafting and negotiations, website policies and terms of use, fund-raising, insurance and employment law. He regularly advises clients on trademark and copyright issues, with a special emphasis on licensing agreements, and employment matters including wrongful discharge, wage and hour, independent contractor agreements, Family and Medical Leave, EEO and unlawful discrimination. He also represents clients in trade regulation and legislative matters, with special emphasis on Department of Energy rules and regulations relating to energy efficiency of consumer products.
